The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.
CPR/BLS INITIAL COURSE OVERVIEW
The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course is approximately 4.5 hours, including skills practice and skills testing. The BLS course has been proven to be the key to resuscitation, per 2021 guidelines. The course is video-enhanced and designed to provide rescuers the ability to recognize and initiate management for several life-threatening emergencies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
PREREQUISITES
Occupation as a Healthcare Provider or Someone planning to participate in the healthcare industry.

The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Recertification Classroom Course is approximately 4 hours, including skills practice and skills testing. The BLS course has been proven to be the key to resuscitation, per 2021 guidelines. The course is video-enhanced and designed to provide rescuers a refresher to recognize and initiate management for several life-threatening emergencies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is for healthcare professionals who have a current card and need to re-certify this certificate before the expiration date.
PREREQUISITES
The adult learner is required to conduct a self-assessment. The following are the requirements for entry into the course:
- You have had a previous professional CPR class for healthcare providers.
- You are proficient in the basic techniques and progression of the CPR sequence for adults, children, and infants.
- You are proficient in the relief of choking for adults, children, and infants and the proper use of an AED.
- Healthcare providers who do not meet the prerequisites should enroll in the 4-hour BLS for Health Care Provider Initial Provider Class.

CPR/BLS ONLINE COURSE OVERVIEW
The American Heart Association’s BLS for Healthcare Providers Online Part 1 Course, web-based and accessible 24 hours a day, provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Through case-based scenarios, interactive activities and videos, this course teaches the concepts of both single-rescuer and team basic life support.
Part 1 will be accompanied with a 1 hour hands-on skills practice and testing session (Part 2) with an AHA BLS Instructor.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is for healthcare students or professionals.
HOW THIS WORKS
- Register for the Online BLS Part 1 with Skills Evaluation.
- Receive via email an online key within 24 hours of registration.
- Complete the Online BLS Part 1 Course through the AHA web learning platform.
- Print out Part 1 completion certificate.
- Attend a skills practice session (Part 2).
- Receive your certification after successful completion of all parts.

CPR/BLS SKILLS SESSION OVERVIEW
Once completed with your online learning, you will need to schedule a day with the Training Center to have an instructor evaluate your skills. During your skill session you will Initiate management for several life-threatening emergencies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Upon completion of your skills you will receive a BLS Provider card.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This skill session is for healthcare professionals who have completed the CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider online portion 1 and need to complete course competences for a completion card.
