PALS RENEWAL/UPDATE COURSE OVERVIEW

The PALS recertification course has two options. Option one is with all optional stations it requires approximately 8 hours and 20 minutes, plus additional time for breaks and lunch. Option two is without optional stations and it requires approximately 6 hours 20 minutes, plus additional time for breaks and lunch. Both options are comprised of retraining that focus on information for healthcare professionals who initiate and direct advanced life support in critically ill infants and children. The course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The course covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital. The course includes simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. The goal of the PALS recertification course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course is for healthcare professionals who have a current card and need to recertify this certificate before the expiration date.

PREREQUISITES

Must have a current CPR card.
